UNITED NATIONS AND ROTARY
– and the “United Nations” in Our Club!
Did you know that Rotary has a remarkable and often overlooked historical connection with the United Nations?
This powerful partnership dates back to 1942, amid the challenges of World War II. Rotary clubs from 21 countries gathered in London, united by a common vision—to rebuild a world through education, science, and cultural understanding once peace returned. This landmark conference paved the way for what would soon become UNESCO.
Then, in 1945, 49 Rotarians attended the historic San Francisco conference, actively participating as delegates and influential consultants in the drafting of the United Nations Charter. Their efforts contributed significantly to shaping the future of international cooperation and peace. Three years later, in 1948, the UN Charter officially came into effect, marking a milestone in global diplomacy and Rotary’s role within it.
Since then, Rotary International and the United Nations have continued their close collaboration, sharing a commitment to building a more peaceful and prosperous world for all.
The “United Nations” Right Here in Pattaya!
The Rotary Club of Pattaya proudly thrives in one of the most international cities on earth. The inhabitants are from all provinces of Thailand and from (almost) all countries in the world, and significantly, we all live in peace and harmony.
In Pattaya, diversity is our strength. Regardless of differences in nationality, ethnicity, religion, language, or political beliefs, we coexist peacefully—a striking contrast to many other parts of the world today. Our community exemplifies how embracing diversity can cultivate peace and understanding.
We are proud to say that our club alone represents 14 nations: Thailand, India, the USA, England, Germany, France, Bangladesh, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Greece, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.
Pattaya isn’t just a city; it’s a global showcase of unity in diversity. Let the world look to PATTAYA as an inspiring example—proof that peaceful coexistence is more than possible; it’s thriving here every day!
