During his time in Thailand\, he has been involved in a number of community projects\, including playground renovations with the Hand to Hand Foundation and support for a bus project for Srisangwan Chiang Mai School for children with disabilities. \nJohn will present a proposal aimed at modernizing the way certain numerical terms\, large-number scales and date formats are taught and used in Thailand\, with particular emphasis on their application in education\, technology and international communication. \nHis presentation will explore the use of the internationally recognized Year-Month-Day date format\, alternative ways of expressing numbers such as 10\,000 and 100\,000\, and terminology for modern large-scale values used in technology\, including billions\, trillions\, gigabytes and terabytes. \nOne practical example highlighted in the proposal is the terminology surrounding a 2-terabyte hard drive and the difficulties that can arise when traditional numerical terminology is applied to modern technical measurements. \nJohn would like to present his ideas to the members of the Rotary Club of Pattaya\, receive feedback and discuss whether elements of the proposal could potentially be developed into an educational pilot involving local schools. Yet the work is not finished. \nPolio remains a threat wherever children are not fully protected\, particularly in areas affected by conflict and disruption.
